Scholarly Commentary
This noble hadith establishes the unique status of fasting among all acts of worship. While other deeds receive tenfold reward, fasting stands apart in its divine connection.
The phrase "It is for Me" signifies Allah's special attachment to fasting, as it is a hidden act of worship unlike prayer, charity, or pilgrimage. Only Allah knows the sincerity of the fasting person.
"I shall reward for it" indicates an unlimited, immeasurable reward from Allah's boundless mercy, not constrained by the usual tenfold multiplication. This demonstrates Allah's exceptional generosity toward those who abstain from lawful desires for His sake.
The scholars explain that fasting combines patience in three forms: patience in obeying Allah, patience in avoiding disobedience, and patience in enduring hardship - thus deserving this special status.
