Translation
It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'There has come to you Ramadan, a blessed month, which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has enjoined you to fast. In it the gates of heavens are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and every devil is chained up. In it Allah has a night which is better than a thousand months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived."'

Comment

The Excellence of Ramadan

This blessed hadith from Sunan an-Nasa'i 2106 illuminates the immense spiritual significance of Ramadan. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) announces its arrival as a divine blessing, emphasizing that fasting therein is a compulsory act of worship ordained by Allah Himself.

Heavenly Gates Opened

The opening of heaven's gates signifies divine mercy descending and righteous deeds being readily accepted. This metaphysical reality demonstrates Allah's magnanimity during this sacred month, facilitating spiritual ascent for believers.

Hell's Gates Closed

The closure of Hell's gates represents divine protection from evil temptations and punishment. This divine safeguard creates a conducive environment for spiritual purification and devotion.

Devils Chained

The chaining of devils indicates restricted satanic influence, allowing believers greater capacity to focus on worship. However, scholars note that this refers to major devils, while minor temptations from human souls remain.

Laylat al-Qadr

The "night better than a thousand months" refers to Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Decree), wherein divine destinies are ordained and worship equals over 83 years of devotion. Its exact night is concealed to encourage diligent worship throughout Ramadan's last ten nights.

Divine Deprivation Warning

The severe warning about being deprived underscores the tremendous loss incurred by those who neglect Ramadan's spiritual opportunities. True deprivation is failing to attain forgiveness and divine proximity during this blessed month.
