Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdah bin Abi Lubabah that Ibn Yasaf told him that he asked 'Aishah, the wife of the Prophet [SAW],

What supplication did the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say the most before he died? She said: "The supplication that he said the most was: 'Allahumma, inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma 'amiltu wa min sharri ma lam a'mal ba'd (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of what I have done, and from the evil of what I have not done yet.)'"

The Book of Seeking Refuge with Allah - Sunan an-Nasa'i

This narration from Sunan an-Nasa'i 5523 reveals the most frequent supplication of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in his final days, as reported by his wife Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).

Scholarly Commentary

The supplication "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma 'amiltu wa min sharri ma lam a'mal ba'd" demonstrates profound spiritual wisdom. The first portion seeks protection from the evil consequences of past deeds - both known sins whose effects persist and righteous acts tainted by ostentation or deficiency.

The second portion reflects exceptional foresight, seeking refuge from future evils before they occur. This includes protection from sins one might commit, harmful knowledge, and unforeseen consequences of seemingly good deeds. The Prophet's emphasis on this dua near life's end teaches us that spiritual vigilance must remain constant.

Practical Application

This comprehensive supplication should be recited regularly, particularly during morning and evening remembrances. It cultivates constant awareness of Allah's protection, humility regarding one's actions, and precaution against future spiritual dangers.
