Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) say that Allah, Exalted is He, said:

‘O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and hope in Me, I will forgive you for whatever you have done, and I will not mind. O son of Adam, if your sins were to reach the clouds of the sky and you then sought My forgiveness, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, if you came to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and then met Me without associating anything with Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as them.’

It was related by al-Tirmidhi (and likewise by Ahmad); its chain is fair.
