Abu Sa‘id (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

‘Let none of you belittle himself.’ They said, ‘Messenger of Allah, how can one of us belittle himself?’ He said, ‘He sees a matter of Allah’s that calls for him to speak about it, yet he does not speak about it. Then Allah, Might and Majesty belong to Him, will say to him on the Day of Resurrection, “What prevented you from speaking about such-and-such?” He will say, “Fear of people.” He will say, “It is Me whom you had greater right to fear.”’

It was related by Ibn Majah with a sound chain.
