حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدَّارِمِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَلَّى بْنُ أَسَدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، قَالَ: مَنْ رَآنِي فِي الْمَنَامِ فَقَدْ رَآنِي، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لا يَتَخَيَّلُ بِي وَقَالَ: وَرُؤْيَا الْمُؤْمِنِ جُزْءٌ مِنْ سِتَّةٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ جُزْءًا مِنَ النُّبُوَّةِ.

'Abd Allah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Darimi narrated to us. He said: Mu'alla ibn Asad narrated to us. He said: 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mukhtar narrated to us. He said: Thabit narrated to us, from Anas, that Allah's Messenger (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: 'Whoever sees me in a dream has indeed seen me, for Satan cannot take on my appearance.' He also said: 'The believer's dream is one part out of forty-six parts of prophethood.'
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic wording literally says Satan cannot 'take on/appear in my likeness'; the English witness renders it 'impersonate me.'
