Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

‘Abd Allah ibn Mu‘awiyah al-Jumahi narrated to us: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Layth, from Tawus, from Ziyad ibn Simin Koush, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘A tribulation will sweep through the Arabs; those killed in it are in the Fire. The tongue during it is more severe than the sword.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This is a gharib hadith. I heard Muhammad ibn Isma‘il say: We know no other hadith from Ziyad ibn Simin Koush. Hammad ibn Salamah narrated it as marfu‘, raising it to the Prophet, while Hammad ibn Zayd narrated it as mawquf, stopping it at ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The source spells the transmitter’s unusual name زياد بن سيمين كوش; ‘Simin Koush’ is a provisional transliteration, and the exact identity is uncertain.

The transmitter name زياد بن سيمين كوش is unusual and cannot be securely identified from this source excerpt; it is transliterated provisionally.

Confirm the narrator’s name against a biographical or critical edition.

The Arabic records a raised route through Hammad ibn Salamah and a stopped route through Hammad ibn Zayd, details absent from the English witness.

Preserve both transmission statuses and Abu ‘Isa’s route note.
