Sufyan ibn Waki‘ narrated to us: my father narrated to us, from al-Qasim ibn al-Fadl, from Abu Nadr al-‘Abdi, from Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘By the One in whose hand is my soul, the Hour will not come until predators speak to people, a man’s whip-tip and sandal strap speak to him, and his thigh informs him of what his household has done after he left.’ Abu ‘Isa said: There is a report on this topic from Abu Hurayrah. This is a hasan gharib hadith; we know it only through the narration of al-Qasim ibn al-Fadl. Hadith scholars regard al-Qasim ibn al-Fadl as trustworthy and reliable; Yahya ibn Sa‘id al-Qattan and ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi both declared him trustworthy.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The source lists three signs: predators speaking, everyday objects speaking, and a person’s thigh informing him about his household. The source’s wording after him is kept without specifying how long he has been away.
