Hannad narrated to us: Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Shabib ibn Gharqadah, from Sulayman ibn ‘Amr ibn al-Ahwas, from his father, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say to the people during the Farewell Pilgrimage, ‘What day is this?’ They said, ‘The day of the Greater Pilgrimage.’ He said, ‘Indeed, your blood, your property, and your honor are sacred to one another, like the sacredness of this day of yours in this land of yours. Beware: no offender commits an offense except against himself. No offender commits an offense against his child, nor does a child against his parent. Beware: Satan has despaired of being worshiped ever again in this land of yours, but he will be obeyed in deeds that you consider insignificant, and he will be content with that.’ Abu ‘Isa said: There are reports on this topic from Abu Bakrah, Ibn ‘Abbas, Jabir, and Hudhaym ibn ‘Amr al-Sa‘di. This is a hasan sahih hadith. Za’idah narrated something similar from Shabib ibn Gharqadah. We know it only through the narration of Shabib ibn Gharqadah.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The source speaks of Satan being obeyed in deeds people regard as insignificant; it does not say that those deeds are insignificant in themselves.

The Arabic includes Abu ‘Isa’s topic cross-references, grading, and note that this report is known only through Shabib’s narration.
