Mahmud ibn Ghaylan narrated to us: Abu Dawud narrated to us: Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Qatadah. Anas ibn Malik narrated to us, from Usayd ibn Hudayr, that a man from the Ansar said, ‘Messenger of Allah, you appointed so-and-so but did not appoint me.’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, ‘You will see preferential treatment after me, so be patient until you meet me at the Pool.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih hadith.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The man from the Ansar is unnamed in the Arabic source. ‘Preferential treatment’ renders atharah: others will be favored or given a greater share.
