حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " إِنَّكُمْ سَتَرَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً وَأُمُورًا تُنْكِرُونَهَا " . قَالُوا فَمَا تَأْمُرُنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ " أَدُّوا إِلَيْهِمْ حَقَّهُمْ وَسَلُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَكُمْ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .

Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us: Yahya ibn Sa‘id narrated to us, from al-A‘mash, from Zayd ibn Wahb, from ‘Abd Allah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: ‘You will see preferential treatment and matters you disapprove of after me.’ They said, ‘What do you command us to do, Messenger of Allah?’ He replied, ‘Give them their due, and ask Allah for what is due to you.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih hadith.

The Arabic ‘give them their right’ and ‘ask Allah for your right’ is rendered as fulfilling others’ due while seeking one’s own due from Allah.
