Mahmud ibn Ghaylan narrated to us: Abu Dawud narrated to us: Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Mu‘awiyah ibn Qurrah, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘When the people of Syria become corrupt, there will be no good in you. A group from my community will continue to be supported; those who forsake them will not harm them, until the Hour is established.’ Muhammad ibn Isma‘il said: ‘Ali ibn al-Madini said, ‘They are the people of hadith.’ Abu ‘Isa said: There are reports on this topic from ‘Abd Allah ibn Hawalah, Ibn ‘Umar, Zayd ibn Thabit, and ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr. This is a hasan sahih hadith. Ahmad ibn Mani‘ narrated to us: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us: Bahz ibn Hakim informed us, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: I asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, where do you direct me to go?’ He replied, ‘Here,’ and gestured with his hand toward Syria. Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih hadith.

  • The second report is a separate chain appended to the same source block; it is included even though the English witness presents only the first report.

  • قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيْنَ تَأْمُرُنِي قَالَ ‏"‏ هَا هُنَا ‏"‏ ‏.

The Arabic appends a second report through Bahz ibn Hakim in which the Prophet gestures toward Syria; the English witness contains only the first report.
