Qutaybah narrated to us: ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from al-‘Ala’ ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘Hasten to perform good deeds before tribulations come like pieces of a dark night: a man will wake as a believer and enter the evening as an unbeliever, or enter the evening as a believer and wake as an unbeliever. One of them will sell his religion for some worldly gain.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih hadith.
