حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْمُعَلَّى بْنِ زِيَادٍ، رَدَّهُ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ رَدَّهُ إِلَى مَعْقِلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ رَدَّهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " الْعِبَادَةُ فِي الْهَرْجِ كَالْهِجْرَةِ إِلَىَّ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ إِنَّمَا نَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الْمُعَلَّى .

Qutaybah narrated to us: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from al-Mu‘alla ibn Ziyad, who attributed it to Mu‘awiyah ibn Qurrah, who attributed it to Ma‘qil ibn Yasar, who attributed it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): ‘Worship during times of turmoil and killing is like migration to me.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This is a sahih gharib hadith. We know it only through the narration of Hammad ibn Zayd, from al-Mu‘alla.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The source uses repeated ‘attributed it to’ wording in the chain; it is kept distinct rather than silently regularized to ‘narrated from.’ Al-harj refers to turmoil and killing, as clarified in the preceding report.
