Wasil ibn ‘Abd al-A‘la al-Kufi narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘The earth will disgorge pieces of its liver, like columns of gold and silver. A thief will come and say, “For something like this my hand was cut off?” A murderer will come and say, “For this I killed?” And one who severed kinship ties will come and say, “For this I severed my kinship ties?” Then they will leave it there and take nothing from it.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih gharib hadith; we know it only through this route.

The phrase أَفْلاَذَ كَبِدِهَا is literally ‘pieces of its liver,’ a metaphor for what the earth holds within it; the image is retained rather than replaced by the English witness’s awkward repetition.
The Arabic uses the metaphor ‘pieces of its liver’ for the earth’s disgorged treasure; the English witness has an awkward and less clear rendering.
Retain the Arabic metaphor with an explanatory note rather than normalize it away.
