Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

‘Abd Allah ibn al-Sabbah al-‘Attar al-Hashimi narrated to us: Mahbub ibn al-Hasan narrated to us: Khalid al-Hadhdha’ narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: ‘Whoever points an iron weapon at his brother, the angels curse him.’ Abu ‘Isa said: There are reports on this topic from Abu Bakrah, ‘A’ishah, and Jabir. This is a hasan sahih gharib hadith through this route; it is considered unusual in the narration of Khalid al-Hadhdha’. Ayyub narrated it from Muhammad ibn Sirin, from Abu Hurayrah, with similar wording, but did not raise it to the Prophet; he added, ‘even if he were his full brother.’ Qutaybah informed us of this: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated it from Ayyub with this wording.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The word hadidah means a piece of iron; in this context it is rendered as an iron weapon. The source distinguishes the marfu‘ version from Ayyub’s similar mawquf version, which adds ‘even if he were his full brother.’

  • ‏ قَالَ وَأَخْبَرَنَا بِذَلِكَ قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بِهَذَا ‏.

The Arabic includes a second version that is not raised to the Prophet and adds ‘even if he were his full brother,’ as well as the route through Hammad ibn Zayd.
