Muḥammad ibn Ḥātim al-Mukattib narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ‘Abd Allāh al-Anṣārī narrated to us; Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl narrated to us, from Anas, from the Prophet, who said: “Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or oppressed.” We said, “Messenger of Allah, we understand helping him when he is oppressed. How do we help him when he is an oppressor?” He said, “Restrain him from oppression; that is how you help him.”
Reports on this topic are also related from ‘Ā’ishah. Abū ‘Īsā said: This is a ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ hadith.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The instruction to help an oppressor is explained in the report itself as preventing him from wrongdoing.

The Arabic includes a report from ‘Ā’ishah and the compiler’s grading, which the English witness omits.
Should the closing source note be verified against a fuller English witness?
