حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْجُوزَجَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا نُعَيْمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " إِنَّكُمْ فِي زَمَانٍ مَنْ تَرَكَ مِنْكُمْ عُشْرَ مَا أُمِرَ بِهِ هَلَكَ ثُمَّ يَأْتِي زَمَانٌ مَنْ عَمِلَ مِنْهُمْ بِعُشْرِ مَا أُمِرَ بِهِ نَجَا " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ إِلاَّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ . قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ .

Ibrāhīm ibn Ya‘qūb al-Jūzajānī narrated to us; Nu‘aym ibn Ḥammād narrated to us; Sufyān ibn ‘Uyaynah narrated to us, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-A‘raj, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet, who said: “You are in a time when whoever among you abandons one-tenth of what he has been commanded will perish. Then a time will come when whoever among them does one-tenth of what he has been commanded will be saved.”
Abū ‘Īsā said: This is a gharīb hadith; we know it only through Nu‘aym ibn Ḥammād’s report from Sufyān ibn ‘Uyaynah. Reports on this topic are also related from Abū Dharr and Abū Sa‘īd.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The contrast between abandoning a tenth in the first period and carrying out a tenth in the later period is kept as stated; no explanation is added.
