‘Abd ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us; ‘Abd al-Razzāq narrated to us; Ma‘mar informed us, from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, from Ibn ‘Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah stood on the pulpit and said: “Here is the land of tribulation.” He pointed eastward, toward where the trunk of Satan rises—or, he said, “the horn of Satan.”
This is a ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ hadith.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic gives “the trunk of Satan” and then the alternate wording “the horn of Satan.” The English witness adds a phrase about the sun that is not present in this Arabic text.
جِذْلُ الشَّيْطَانِ " . أَوْ قَالَ " قَرْنُ الشَّيْطَانِ
The Arabic offers two expressions involving Satan; the English witness instead supplies “the horn of the sun” as its alternative.
Should a parallel source be checked for this variant wording?
