Qutaybah narrated to us: ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Abi al-Mawali al-Muzani narrated to us, from ‘Ubayd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mawhib, from ‘Amrah, from ‘A’ishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘There are six whom I have cursed—may Allah curse them, and every prophet as well: the one who adds to the Book of Allah; the one who denies Allah’s decree; the one who wields tyrannical power to honor someone whom Allah has humbled and humiliate someone whom Allah has honored; the one who deems lawful what Allah has made sacred; the one from my family who deems lawful what Allah has forbidden; and the one who abandons my Sunnah.’ Abu ‘Isa said: ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Mawali transmitted this hadith from ‘Ubayd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mawhib, from ‘Amrah, from ‘A’ishah, from the Prophet, in this way. Sufyan al-Thawri, Hafs ibn Ghiyath, and more than one other transmitter narrated it from ‘Ubayd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mawhib, from ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn, from the Prophet, in mursal form; this latter version is more correct.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The report lists six condemned acts. The source’s first route attributes the narration to ‘A’ishah, but Abu ‘Isa states that the mursal route through ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn is more correct; both are preserved as source variants.
The English witness gives the saying from ‘A’ishah but omits Abu ‘Isa’s route comparison, in which the mursal transmission through ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn is judged more correct.
Keep both the text’s initial chain and Abu ‘Isa’s preference for the mursal route visible.
