Qutaybah narrated to us: al-Layth narrated to us, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Abū Qatādah, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘A vision is from Allah, while a disturbing dream is from Satan. So when one of you sees something he dislikes, let him blow lightly to his left three times and seek refuge in Allah from its evil; then it will not harm him.’ At-Tirmidhī said: ‘Reports on this subject are also related from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr, Abū Saʿīd, Jābir, and Anas. This hadith is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ.’

The English witness says ‘spit on his left’; the Arabic verb نفث refers to a light blowing, often with a slight spitting action, so a literal ‘spit’ may suggest more than the Arabic requires.
Should the published wording retain ‘blow lightly’ or use the conventional rendering ‘spit lightly’?
