Maḥmūd ibn Ghaylān narrated to us: Abū Dāwūd narrated to us, saying: Shuʿbah informed us; he said: Yaʿlā ibn ʿAṭāʾ informed me; he said: I heard Wakīʿ ibn ʿAdus, from Abū Razīn al-ʿUqaylī, say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'The believer's vision is one part out of forty parts of prophethood. It remains upon a bird's leg so long as it is not spoken of; when it is spoken of, it falls.' He (the narrator) said: 'I think he also said: It should be related only to an intelligent person or a beloved one.'
