Harun Abu Musa al-Mustamli al-Baghdadi narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Harb narrated to us; ‘Umar ibn Ru’bah al-Taghlibi narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Wahid ibn ‘Abd Allah Abu Bisr al-Nasri, from Wathilah ibn al-Asqa‘, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘A woman receives inheritance in three cases: from one whom she emancipated, a foundling she has taken in, and a child concerning whom she has invoked li‘an.’ This is a hasan gharib hadith, known only through the narration of Muhammad ibn Harb.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
Li‘an is retained as the formal mutual imprecation procedure between spouses; the source refers to the child involved in that procedure.
The source uses the term li‘an for a formal procedure; a full explanation is not included in this report.
Should the technical term be retained with a concise note? It is retained here.
