Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Ibn Abi ‘Umar narrated to us; Sufyan narrated to us; Abu Ishaq narrated to us, from al-Harith, from ‘Ali, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled that full siblings inherit to the exclusion of paternal half-siblings. Abu ‘Isa said: We know this hadith only through the narration of Abu Ishaq, from al-Harith, from ‘Ali. Some scholars criticized al-Harith, but most scholars act according to this hadith.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • Full siblings share both parents; paternal half-siblings share a father. The compiler notes both criticism of al-Harith and the broad acceptance of the report’s ruling.

The Arabic adds a note that the report is known through one route, that some scholars criticized al-Harith, and that most scholars follow the ruling.

Should the compiler’s transmission and practice notes be included? They are translated here.
