حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، عَنِ ابْنِ ثَوْبَانَ، هُوَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ ثَابِتِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ حَسَّانَ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ، عَنْ أَبِي كَبْشَةَ السَّلُولِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " بَلِّغُوا عَنِّي وَلَوْ آيَةً وَحَدِّثُوا عَنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَلاَ حَرَجَ وَمَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَىَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ . حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِيِّ، عَنْ حَسَّانَ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ، عَنْ أَبِي كَبْشَةَ السَّلُولِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَحْوَهُ . وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ .

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr reported that the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Convey from me, even if only one verse, and narrate from the Children of Israel without blame. Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his seat in the Fire.’ Abu ‘Isa said: ‘This hadith is hasan sahih.’ Ibn Thawban was ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Thabit ibn Thawban. Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated a similar report through Abu ‘Asim, from al-Awza‘i, from Hassan ibn ‘Atiyyah, from Abu Kabshah al-Saluli, from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr, from the Prophet; this hadith is sahih.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The source gives two routes with separate grades (hasan sahih and sahih) and identifies Ibn Thawban. The condition ‘deliberately’ is explicit in the warning against lying about the Prophet.
