حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَشْوَعَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ الْجُعْفِيِّ، قَالَ قَالَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي قَدْ سَمِعْتُ مِنْكَ، حَدِيثًا كَثِيرًا أَخَافُ أَنْ يُنْسِيَنِي، أَوَّلَهُ آخِرُهُ فَحَدِّثْنِي بِكَلِمَةٍ تَكُونُ جِمَاعًا . قَالَ " اتَّقِ اللَّهَ فِيمَا تَعْلَمُ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ لَيْسَ إِسْنَادُهُ بِمُتَّصِلٍ وَهُوَ عِنْدِي مُرْسَلٌ . وَلَمْ يُدْرِكْ عِنْدِي ابْنُ أَشْوَعَ يَزِيدَ بْنَ سَلَمَةَ وَابْنُ أَشْوَعَ اسْمُهُ سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَشْوَعَ .

Yazid ibn Salamah al-Ju‘fi said: ‘Messenger of Allah, I have heard many hadiths from you, and I fear that the later ones will make me forget the earlier ones. So give me a concise statement that encompasses them.’ He replied: ‘Be mindful of Allah regarding what you know.’ Abu ‘Isa said: ‘This hadith’s chain is not connected; in my view it is mursal. Ibn Ashwa did not meet Yazid ibn Salamah. Ibn Ashwa’s name was Sa‘id ibn Ashwa.’
