Ishaq ibn Musa al-Ansari narrated to us; Ma‘n narrated to us; Malik narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Khusayfah, from ‘Amr ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Ka‘b al-Sulami, from Nafi‘ ibn Jubayr ibn Mut‘im, who informed him from ‘Uthman ibn Abi al-‘As: He said, ‘The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I had an illness that was causing me severe distress. The Messenger of Allah said, “Rub it with your right hand seven times and say: I seek refuge in Allah’s might and power from the harm of what I feel.”’ He said: I did so, and Allah removed what I had been suffering. I continued to instruct my family and others to do this. Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih hadith.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic supplication mentions Allah’s might and power; the English witness adds ‘sovereignty,’ which is not present in this source wording.

The English witness adds ‘sovereignty’ to the supplication, while this Arabic wording mentions might and power only.

Should the extra term in the witness be omitted? The translation follows the Arabic text.
