Ibn Abi ‘Umar narrated to us; Sufyan narrated to us. Abu Hazim said: Sahl ibn Sa‘d was asked while I was listening, ‘How was the Messenger of Allah’s wound treated?’ He replied, ‘No one remains who knows more about it than I do. ‘Ali would bring water in his shield, Fatimah would wash the blood from him, and a mat was burned; its ashes were packed into his wound.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih hadith.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The closing phrase says that the burned mat’s ashes were used to pack the wound. The source does not identify a type of mat.

  • ‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.

The witness omits Abu ‘Isa’s grading, which is present in the Arabic.

Should the grading be included? It is translated from the source.
