Ahmad ibn Mani‘ said: ‘Ubaydah ibn Humayd narrated to us, from al-A‘mash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah—who, I think, attributed it to the Prophet—who said: “Whoever kills himself with an iron instrument will come on the Day of Resurrection with it in his hand, repeatedly stabbing his belly with it in the Fire of Hell, abiding there forever. Whoever kills himself with poison will have the poison in his hand, repeatedly swallowing it in the Fire of Hell, abiding there forever.”

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The chain marks the attribution to the Prophet as uncertain (urāhu rafa‘ahu), which is retained. No grade or compiler comment appears in this source text.

أُرَاهُ رَفَعَهُ marks uncertainty about whether Abu Hurayrah attributed the report to the Prophet.

Does “I think, attributed it to the Prophet” preserve the uncertainty rather than state the attribution as certain?
