Sa‘id ibn Abi Hilal reported from Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Ansari that the Messenger of Allah came out to them one day and said, ‘I saw in a dream that Jibril was by my head and Mika’il by my feet. One said to the other, “Give him an example.” He said, “Listen, may your ears hear, and understand, may your heart grasp: Your example and that of your community is like a king who took a residence, built a house there, set out a banquet, and sent a messenger to invite people to his meal. Some answered the messenger and others refused. Allah is the King, the residence is Islam, the house is Paradise, and you, Muhammad, are the Messenger. Whoever answers you enters Islam, whoever enters Islam enters Paradise, and whoever enters Paradise will eat what is in it.”’

The Arabic explicitly places Jibril by the Prophet’s head and Mika’il by his feet; the English witness omits Mika’il. It says the king took a residence (ittakhadha daran), not that he conquered a land as the English witness states. The report is mursal: Sa‘id ibn Abi Hilal did not meet Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah. Abu ‘Isa says versions through other routes have sounder chains, and cites a report from Ibn Mas‘ud on this topic.
