حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قُلْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَوِ اتَّخَذْتَ مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى فَنَزَلَتْ ‏:‏ ‏‏(‏وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى ‏)‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.‏ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ‏.‏

Anas reported that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab said, ‘I said to the Messenger of Allah, “I wish you would take the Station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer.” Then the verse was revealed: “Take the Station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer” (Qur’an 2:125).’ Abu ‘Isa graded this hadith hasan sahih; a report from Ibn ‘Umar is also cited on this topic.

  • This wording differs from the preceding report, which says ‘I wish we could pray behind the Station of Ibrahim.’
