‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla reported from Ka‘b ibn ‘Ujrah: ‘The Messenger of Allah came to me while I was tending a pot over the fire, and lice were falling onto my forehead—or, he said, my eyebrow. He asked, “Are the lice on your head bothering you?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “Shave your head and offer a sacrifice, or fast for three days, or feed six needy people.”’ Ayyub said, ‘I do not know which option he mentioned first.’ Abu ‘Isa graded this hadith hasan sahih.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • This is a variant of the preceding report; the narrator is uncertain whether the lice fell on Ka‘b’s forehead or eyebrow and about the order of the expiation options.
