حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ مَرِضْتُ فَأَتَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَعُودُنِي وَقَدْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَىَّ فَلَمَّا أَفَقْتُ قُلْتُ كَيْفَ أَقْضِي فِي مَالِي فَسَكَتَ عَنِّي حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ : ( يُوصِيكُمُ اللَّهُ فِي أَوْلاَدِكُمْ لِلذَّكَرِ مِثْلُ حَظِّ الأُنْثَيَيْنِ ) قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ . وَقَدْ رَوَى غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ . حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَحْوَهُ وَفِي حَدِيثِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ كَلاَمٌ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ هَذَا .

Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir reported that he heard Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah say: ‘I became ill, and the Messenger of Allah came to visit me while I was unconscious. When I regained consciousness, I asked, “How should my property be distributed?” He did not answer me until the verse was revealed: “Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, a share equal to that of two females” (Qur’an 4:11).’ Abu ‘Isa graded this hadith hasan sahih and noted that more than one narrator reported it from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir.
Al-Fadl ibn al-Sabbah also narrated a similar report from Jabir, directly attributing it to the Prophet; his version contains additional wording.
