حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " لَمَّا حَمَلَتْ حَوَّاءُ طَافَ بِهَا إِبْلِيسُ وَكَانَ لاَ يَعِيشُ لَهَا وَلَدٌ فَقَالَ سَمِّيهِ عَبْدَ الْحَارِثِ . فَسَمَّتْهُ عَبْدَ الْحَارِثِ فَعَاشَ وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ وَحْىِ الشَّيْطَانِ وَأَمْرِهِ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ مَرْفُوعًا إِلاَّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ عُمَرَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ . وَرَوَاهُ بَعْضُهُمْ عَنْ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ شَيْخٌ بَصْرِيٌّ .

Samurah ibn Jundab reported that the Prophet said: ‘When Eve became pregnant, Satan came around her. None of her children survived, so he said, “Name him ‘Abd al-Harith.” She named him ‘Abd al-Harith, and he lived. That was among Satan’s inspirations and commands.’ Abu ‘Isa graded this hadith hasan gharib and said it is known as a Prophetic report only through ‘Umar ibn Ibrahim, from Qatadah. Some narrators reported it from ‘Abd al-Samad without raising it to the Prophet. ‘Umar ibn Ibrahim was a Basran teacher.

The report is transmitted with differing attribution: Abu ‘Isa notes that some narrators report it as a non-Prophetic statement, while the marfu‘ version comes only through ‘Umar ibn Ibrahim.
