Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us: Yahya ibn Sa‘id narrated to us, from Isma‘il ibn Abi Khalid, who said: Qays—namely Ibn Abi Hazim—narrated to me, from ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir al-Juhani, from the Prophet, who said: ‘Allah has revealed to me verses the like of which have never been seen: “Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind” (114:1), through the end of the surah, and “Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak” (113:1), through the end of the surah.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih.

  • The Arabic lists Surah al-Nas first, followed by Surah al-Falaq, and says that comparable verses had not been seen. The English witness preserves the same order.
