"My Lord promised me that seventy thousand of my Ummah shall be admitted into Paradise without a reckoning against them nor any punishment. With every thousand, are seventy thousand and three measures from His measures."
Hadith Commentary from Jami' at-Tirmidhi
This narration from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) describes Allah's immense mercy and generosity toward his Ummah on the Day of Judgement, promising a vast multitude entry into Paradise without accounting or punishment.
Numerical Interpretation
The initial seventy thousand represents the core group granted this exceptional privilege. The subsequent multiplication—seventy thousand with every thousand—demonstrates Allah's boundless generosity, far exceeding human expectations.
The "three measures from His measures" signifies additional, immeasurable blessings beyond calculation, emphasizing that divine measures surpass human comprehension.
Spiritual Significance
This promise serves as profound encouragement for believers, highlighting that ultimate salvation depends on divine mercy rather than mere deeds. It inspires hope and reinforces tawakkul (reliance upon Allah).
Scholars note this special privilege is likely for those who maintained pure tawhid (monotheism), avoided major sins, and died upon sincere faith without associating partners with Allah.
Context in Islamic Eschatology
This hadith appears in "Chapters on the description of the Day of Judgement, Ar-Riqaq, and Al-Wara'" of Jami' at-Tirmidhi (reference: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2437), comforting believers about the Hereafter's realities and Allah's readiness to forgive and reward beyond measure.
