حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " بَيْنَا رَجُلٌ رَاكِبٌ بَقَرَةً إِذْ قَالَتْ لَمْ أُخْلَقْ لِهَذَا إِنَّمَا خُلِقْتُ لِلْحَرْثِ " . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " آمَنْتُ بِذَلِكَ أَنَا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ " . قَالَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ وَمَا هُمَا فِي الْقَوْمِ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ . حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
Mahmud ibn Ghaylan narrated to us: Abu Dawud narrated to us: Shu‘bah informed us, from Sa‘d ibn Ibrahim, who said: I heard Abu Salamah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman narrate from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘While a man was riding a cow, it said, “I was not created for this; I was created only for plowing.”’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘I believe this—Abu Bakr and ‘Umar do too.’ Abu Salamah said: They were not among the people present that day. Allah knows best. Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated a similar report through this chain. Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih hadith.
