‘Ali ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Salim ibn Abi Hafsah, from ‘Atiyyah, from Abu Sa‘id, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to ‘Ali: ‘‘Ali, it is not lawful for anyone other than you and me to be in a state of major ritual impurity in this mosque.’ ‘Ali ibn al-Mundhir said: I asked Dirar ibn Surad what this hadith meant. He replied, ‘It is not lawful for anyone other than me and you to pass through it while in a state of major ritual impurity.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan gharib hadith through this route. Muhammad ibn Isma‘il heard this hadith from me and considered it unusual.
