Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Ahmad ibn Mani‘ narrated to us; Abu Qatan ‘Amr ibn al-Haytham al-Baghdadi narrated to us; Malik ibn Mighwal narrated to us, from Talhah ibn Musarrif, who said: I asked Ibn Abi Awfa, ‘Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) leave a bequest?’ He said, ‘No.’ I asked, ‘Then how was the bequest written, and what did he enjoin upon the people?’ He said, ‘He enjoined the Book of Allah.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih gharib hadith; we know it only through the narration of Malik ibn Mighwal.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The exchange distinguishes whether the Prophet left a personal bequest from how he instructed the community concerning bequests.

The Arabic adds Abu ‘Isa’s grade and says this route is the only one known to him; the English witness omits both.

Should the grading and route note be included? They are translated here.
