Mahmud ibn Ghaylan narrated to us: Hafs ibn Umar ibn Ubayd al-Tanafisi narrated to us: Zuhayr ibn Muawiyah, Abu Khaythamah, narrated to us, from Humayd, from Anas, who said: The ring of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) was made of silver, and its bezel was of the same material.

Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih gharib through this route.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The English witness begins at Anas and omits the preceding transmitters (Mahmud ibn Ghaylan, Hafs ibn Umar ibn Ubayd, Zuhayr ibn Muawiyah, and Humayd). The phrase ‘its bezel was of it’ is rendered as ‘of the same material,’ referring to the silver just mentioned.

  • حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ،

The English witness omits four transmitters preceding Anas in the Arabic chain.

Can the English witness’s abbreviated isnad be confirmed as an intentional editorial choice?
