Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Muhammad ibn Humayd al-Razi narrated to us: Jarir narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from al-Salt ibn Abdullah ibn Nawfal, who said: I saw Ibn Abbas wearing a ring on his right hand, and I can only suppose he said: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) wearing a ring on his right hand.’

Abu Isa said: Muhammad ibn Ismail said: The report of Muhammad ibn Ishaq from al-Salt ibn Abdullah ibn Nawfal is hasan sahih.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The English witness begins at al-Salt ibn Abdullah ibn Nawfal and omits the preceding chain (Muhammad ibn Humayd al-Razi, Jarir, and Muhammad ibn Ishaq). The narrator’s qualification ‘I can only suppose he said’ is preserved rather than stated as certain.

  • حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الرَّازِيُّ،

The English witness omits three transmitters preceding al-Salt in the Arabic chain.

Can the English witness’s abbreviated isnad be confirmed as an intentional editorial choice?
