Ishaq ibn Mansur informed us: Sa‘id ibn Amir and al-Hajjaj ibn Minhal said: Hammam narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from al-Zuhri, from Anas, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) entered the lavatory, he removed his ring.

Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih gharib.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The English witness begins at Anas and omits the chain of transmitters before him (Ishaq ibn Mansur, Sa‘id ibn Amir, al-Hajjaj ibn Minhal, Hammam, Ibn Jurayj, and al-Zuhri). Khala refers here to the place for relieving oneself; the translation uses ‘lavatory.’

  • حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ،

The English witness omits six transmitters preceding Anas in the Arabic chain.

Can the English witness’s abbreviated isnad be confirmed as an intentional editorial choice?
