Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Humayd ibn Mas‘adah narrated to us: Abd al-Wahhab al-Thaqafi narrated to us, from Humayd, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) was of medium stature, neither tall nor short, well-built, and brown-complexioned. His hair was neither curly nor straight. When he walked, he moved with a slight swaying gait.

There are also reports on this subject from Aishah, al-Bara, Abu Hurayrah, Ibn Abbas, Abu Sa‘id, Jabir, Wa’il ibn Hujr, and Umm Hani. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Anas is hasan sahih gharib through this route, in the report of Humayd.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The English witness begins at Anas and omits the preceding chain (Humayd ibn Mas‘adah, Abd al-Wahhab al-Thaqafi, and Humayd). The gait verb yatakaffa’u is rendered as a slight swaying movement; the Arabic does not specify direction.

  • حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ،

The English witness omits three transmitters preceding Anas in the Arabic chain.

Can the English witness’s abbreviated isnad be confirmed as an intentional editorial choice?
