Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Ali ibn Hujr informed us: Ali ibn Mushir informed us, from Hisham ibn Urwah, from his father, from Aishah, who said: The only bedding of the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) on which he slept was leather, stuffed with palm fiber.

Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih. There are also reports on this subject from Hafsah and Jabir.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The English witness begins at Aishah and omits the preceding chain (Ali ibn Hujr, Ali ibn Mushir, Hisham ibn Urwah, and his father). It adds the bracketed gloss ‘made of a tanned skin’; the Arabic says the bedding was leather (adam), without an explicit mention of tanning.

  • حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ،

The English witness omits four transmitters preceding Aishah in the Arabic chain.

Can the English witness’s abbreviated isnad be confirmed as an intentional editorial choice?

The English witness adds ‘tanned’ in a bracketed gloss, while the Arabic names leather without specifying the tanning process.

Is this gloss sourced from another witness or simply an explanatory inference?
