Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Muhammad ibn Humayd al-Razi narrated to us: Abu Tumaylah, al-Fadl ibn Musa, and Zayd ibn Hubab narrated to us, from Abd al-Mu’min ibn Khalid, from Abdullah ibn Buraydah, from Umm Salamah, who said: The garment most beloved to the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) was the qamis (shirt).

Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan gharib. We know it only through the report of Abd al-Mu’min ibn Khalid; he alone narrated it, and he was from Marw. Some transmitters related this hadith from Abu Tumaylah, from Abd al-Mu’min ibn Khalid, from Abdullah ibn Buraydah, from his mother, from Umm Salamah.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The English witness does not give the full opening chain naming Muhammad ibn Humayd al-Razi, Abu Tumaylah, al-Fadl ibn Musa, and Zayd ibn Hubab. It does preserve the alternate chain through Abdullah ibn Buraydah’s mother.

  • The English witness appends a statement attributed to Muhammad ibn Ismail that the version through Ibn Buraydah’s mother is more correct and that Abu Tumaylah mentioned ‘his mother.’ That statement does not appear in the supplied Arabic passage and is not included in this translation.

  • حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الرَّازِيُّ،

The English witness omits the opening transmitters named in the Arabic before Abd al-Mu’min ibn Khalid.

Was the opening chain intentionally abbreviated in the English witness?

The supplied Arabic ends after reporting the variant chain through Abdullah ibn Buraydah’s mother and contains no statement attributed to Muhammad ibn Ismail evaluating that variant.

Does the English witness append commentary from another version that is absent from this Arabic passage?
