حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا لَبِسَ قَمِيصًا بَدَأَ بِمَيَامِنِهِ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى وَرَوَى غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ مَوْقُوفًا وَلاَ نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا رَفَعَهُ غَيْرَ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ .

Nasr ibn Ali al-Jahdami narrated to us: Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Warith narrated to us: Shu‘bah narrated to us, from al-A‘mash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) wore a qamis, he began with his right side.
Abu Isa said: More than one transmitter narrated this hadith from Shu‘bah, through this chain from Abu Hurayrah, stopping at Abu Hurayrah (mawquf). We know no one who raised it to the Prophet (marfu‘) except Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Warith, from Shu‘bah.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The English witness begins at Abu Hurayrah and omits the Arabic chain (Nasr ibn Ali, Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Warith, Shu‘bah, al-A‘mash, and Abu Salih). The commentary distinguishes versions that stop at Abu Hurayrah from the version attributed to the Prophet through Abd al-Samad.
