Yusuf ibn Isa narrated to us: Waki narrated to us: Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq narrated to us, from al-Sha‘bi, from Urwah ibn al-Mughirah ibn Shu‘bah, from his father, that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) wore a Roman jubbah with narrow sleeves.
Abu Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The English witness begins at Urwah ibn al-Mughirah ibn Shu‘bah and omits the preceding chain (Yusuf ibn Isa, Waki, Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq, and al-Sha‘bi). Jubbah is retained with its usual gloss ‘robe’; the Arabic specifically describes its sleeves as narrow.
حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ عِيسَى،
The English witness omits four transmitters preceding Urwah in the Arabic chain.
Can the English witness’s abbreviated isnad be confirmed as an intentional editorial choice?
