حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، هُوَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ قَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ أَهْدَى دِحْيَةُ الْكَلْبِيُّ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم خُفَّيْنِ فَلَبِسَهُمَا . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى وَقَالَ إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ عَامِرٍ وَجُبَّةً فَلَبِسَهُمَا حَتَّى تَخَرَّقَا لاَ يَدْرِي النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَذَكِيٌّ هُمَا أَمْ لاَ . وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ . أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الَّذِي رَوَى هَذَا عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ هُوَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ وَاسْمُهُ سُلَيْمَانُ وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ هُوَ أَخُو أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ .

Qutaybah narrated to us: Ibn Abi Za’idah narrated to us, from al-Hasan ibn Ayyash, from Abu Ishaq—the Shaybani—from al-Sha‘bi, who said: Al-Mughirah ibn Shu‘bah said: Dihyah al-Kalbi gave the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) a pair of khuffs (leather footwear), and he wore them.
Abu Isa said: Isra’il reported from Jabir, from Amir: and a jubbah (robe); he wore the two until they were worn through. The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) did not know whether they were from an animal slaughtered according to the prescribed method or not. This hadith is hasan gharib. Abu Ishaq, who narrated this from al-Sha‘bi, is Abu Ishaq al-Shaybani, whose name is Sulayman. Al-Hasan ibn Ayyash is the brother of Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash.

In the second report, the Arabic mentions a jubbah and then uses the dual pronoun ‘the two’ (huma), whose precise referent is not explicit in this excerpt. The translation preserves the dual wording rather than resolving it by inference.
