Abu Kurayb narrated to us: Ibn al-Mubarak, Muhammad ibn Bishr, and Abdullah ibn Ismail ibn Abi Khalid narrated to us, from Sa‘id ibn Abi Arubah, from Qatadah, from Abu al-Malih, from his father, that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade using the skins of predatory animals as bedding or spreads.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The English witness begins at Abu al-Malih and omits the transmitters before him: Abu Kurayb, Ibn al-Mubarak, Muhammad ibn Bishr, Abdullah ibn Ismail ibn Abi Khalid, Sa‘id ibn Abi Arubah, and Qatadah. The Arabic specifically concerns spreading or laying out predatory-animal skins.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ،
The English witness omits six transmitters preceding Abu al-Malih in the Arabic chain.
Can the English witness’s abbreviated isnad be confirmed as an intentional editorial choice?
