Qutaybah narrated to us: Sufyan ibn Uyaynah narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, from Abu Hurairah, tracing it back to the Prophet, who said: A woman should not ask for her co-wife to be divorced so that she may take over what is in her vessel. It is also reported in this chapter from Umm Salamah. Abu Isa said: The hadith of Abu Hurairah is hasan sahih.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The expression ‘take over what is in her vessel’ is figurative: it refers to seeking the other woman's share of the husband's time and attention.
